Seahawks coach Pete Carroll: Russell Wilson has ankle sprain

The concerns about whether Wilson would be able to play in Week 2 against Los Angeles seem to be at rest for now.

Speaking on his weekly radio show on 710 ESPN Seattle on Monday, Carroll said Wilson has been diagnosed with a sprained ankle. “He’s not in a boot. We’ll see how it goes”. Fantasy impact: The Seahawks downplayed Wilson’s injury after the game, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll be a sure thing to go against the Los Angeles Rams next week. “He’s planning on playing”, coach Pete Carroll said.

Wilson limped off the field, had the ankle retaped and finished the game. There’s no question in his mind he’s not playing.

A high ankle sprain could limit Wilson and require 2-4 weeks to fully recover.

The undrafted rookie from TCU is the only other quarterback on the 53-man roster and Seattle did not elect to keep a quarterback on the 10-man practice squad.

Asked if the Seahawks are looking to sign a veteran backup quarterback, Carroll said: “Yeah, we are considering all of that”.

NOTES: Carroll was pleased with the returns of TE Jimmy Graham and RB Thomas Rawls, completing their recoveries from major injuries last season. “I know he wants to be a bigger contributor”.

Gase reiterated Monday he wasn’t second-guessing himself in the least about his decision to go for the first down when the Dolphins faced a fourth-and-1 from the Seattle 17-yard line trailing 3-0 in the first quarter. “He did very well, blocked well when he had his chances, and it worked out well”, Carroll said of Graham. Lucky for us, he’s already gotten that out of the way. RB C.J. Prosise has a cracked bone in his hand but should be able to play with a cast.

After running back Jay Ajayi stayed behind in South Florida and was inactive against Seattle, Gase said the second-year player was starting over this week. The longest offensive play was 24 yards and the Seahawks had just two plays over 20 yards.
