The welterweight fight ended at 2:14 of the opening round, when Punk tapped via a rear-naked choke. “You know in life you go big or you go home”, he said. This opportunity just presented itself and I would’ve been a fool to say no. CM Punk was once a WWE champion before retiring from wrestling in 2014, then made a decision to sign on to the UFC later that year. “I think that’s a possibility”, he said during the post-fight interview.
Since Punk had never fought, and had fairly limited training experience, the consensus was he was in way over his head against Gall. “I knew my kill stuff was going to be more than his kill stuff. He’s still a big superstar”, Gall said.
“This might sound like a gimmicky fight but I’m no gimmick”.

“I think they’re going to force me to stay out because I’ve got this ear and some stitches in my eye, but I’d be back in the gym on Monday if it was up to me”.
