Clemson WR Renfrow out at least 4 weeks

The Clemson Tigers will be without starter Hunter Renfrow after the wide receiver suffered a broken hand.

Preliminary reports on Saturday indicated it wasn’t a serious injury. Per Brenner, it’s a cracked bone below the right thumb that will be at the root of Renrow’s looming absence.

“We thought Hunter was going to be fine, but the MRI on Monday showed a little crack below his thumb”, said Swinney on his Monday night radio show, Tiger Calls.

The Clemson wideout was injured after making an acrobatic touchdown catch in the second quarter and will now miss games against Georgia Tech and Louisville, with the hope he will return vs. NC State on October 15. He will have surgery to fix it and miss a few weeks. Head coach Dabo Swinney said he does expect Renfrow to be back for the much-anticipated ACC Atlantic division clash with Florida State, but he will miss the team’s game against high-powered Louisville.

A 5-foot-11, 180-pound redshirt sophomore from Myrtle Beach, S.C., Renfrow caught 33 passes for 492 yards and five touchdowns in 2015.

Renfrow was one of Clemson’s top players in the school’s run to the national championship game past year.

Trevion Thompson is listed as Hunter’s backup, but I wouldn’t be surprised to a guy like Ray Ray McCloud jump over there or even see Artavis Scott play the slot instead. McCloud had seven receptions for a career-high 86 yards against Troy.
