The airways encouraged customers affected by the IT problems to check in online before they reached the airport.
“There will be a knock on impact on flights to and from London City, and passengers are advised to check latest flight information with their airline before travelling to Dublin Airport”, she said.
British Airways took to Twitter to say: “We apologise to our customers for the delay and we appreciate their patience as our IT teams work to resolve this issue”.
Before it’s here, it’s on the Bloomberg Terminal.
Spokeswoman for the unit of London-based International Consolidated Airlines Group SA Sophie Greenyer said an investigation would be launched to determine the cause of the computer glitch.
Separately, London City Airport was closed on Tuesday morning after Black Lives Matter protesters blocked the runway.
The airline said it was checking in customers at Heathrow and Gatwick airports near London although it said it was taking longer than usual.
‘In the meantime our outstations are doing all they can to support our passengers locally, and check-in has been enabled at some airports’. “We are sorry for the delay to your journey”.
Dozens of flights have been delayed at BA’s London Heathrow and Gatwick hubs and staff have been forced to issue handwritten boarding passes in order to keep flights operating.
The airways was upgrading its check-in system and problems led to lengthy queues on one of the busiest days of the year for the airports.
Travelers in the USA said British Airways representatives had told them a system failure had been going on for hours and was global.
Bottled water and snacks were given out but some passengers waited more than two hours to check in for their flights.
