Antonio Brown burns Redskins for long TD on fourth-and-1

“We’re confident in that group”, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said.

Ben Roethlisberger ended up throwing one interception and fumbling the ball twice, but he recovered both of his own fumbles, making those mistakes easier to overcome. That is the expectation.

“We hold ourselves to high expectations” said Roethlisberger. “We have guys that can make plays and they showed it tonight”. Bryn Renner completed 5 of 9 passes for 39 yards while Landry Jones added 29 yards in 4-for-5 passes.

Williams rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries during the Steelers’ offensive onslaught that also featured three passing touchdowns from Ben Roethlisberger, who set the tone after a stumbling start. Williams also caught six passes for 28 yards.

Veteran RB DeAngelo Williams, perhaps the best backup RB in the National Football League, will use the $120 million Steelers offensive line to dominate the Redskins on the ground. “The o-line, they do a great job up there opening holes”.

There wasn’t a lot of running room in the first half, but the line started to wear down the Redskins toward the end of the half.

It was the 23 100-yard game for Williams, and his fifth with the Steelers.

“Third downs, you understand that you have to get off the field” said Redskins defensive lineman Kedrick Golston. “But we’ve come to expect that from him”.

Defensively, it was a stubborn failure to adapt as Steelers star receiver Antonio Brown repeatedly torched Redskins cornerback Bashaud Breeland. “Any time you can get those balls back, it’s huge”. Three plays later, Brown made a nice over-the-shoulder catch on fade route for a 26-yard touchdown, and the Steelers lead was 24-6 with 7:01 left in the third quarter.

Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson (25) rolls into the end zone for a touchdown during the second half of an NFL football game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Landover, Md., Monday, Sept. 12, 2016.

“It’s always pretty good to dial his number”, Tomlin said.
