It has been 50 years since Captain Kirk and the crew of the Starship Enterprise boldly went where no one had gone before.

Starting with “Star Trek: The Motion Picture, “in 1979, the franchise has now spanned almost four decades and a total of 13 films and multiple television versions, including “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “Star Trek: Voyager”. It also struggled with tense “relations with countries beyond the Iron Curtain, far away just like Vulcan”, the extraterrestrial planet and home of Mr. Spock – who was of mixed human-Vulcan descent. Trekkies (or Trekkers) and causal fans can now comment on a series of Star Trek related posts (or any other subjects) in a Star Trek themed way. And an aggressive alien Klingon’s furrowed brow fills in for the “Angry” button.

The “Star Trek“-themed reaction buttons will be available for a limited time for some “Star Trek” fans in the US and Canada who have shown interest in the show or science fiction in general”.

The thumbs-up for “Like” adds some intergalactic sparkle.

The very first episode of Star Trek, titled “The Man Trap”, made its debut on September 8, 1966 and aired on NBC.

“When we caught wind that Star Trek would be celebrating 50 years this month, it got our wheels turning”.

It later spawned books, games, comics, an animated series and six movies with the original cast, beginning with 1979’s “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” and continuing with classic sequels like “The Wrath of Khan” and “The Search for Spock”.
