Charleston Southern University will withhold 14 players from Saturday’s football game at Florida State.

Charleston Southern head coach Jamey Chadwell talks with players during the first half of an NCAA football game against Alabama, Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Having played their season opener on Monday night, the Seminoles effectively had just two days of practice to get ready for the Buccaneers, who entered the game ranked seventh in the FCS Coaches Poll. Players were using the money to buy other items such as pencils, notebooks, electronics and clothes. This, as you might have guessed, could be considered a violation of NCAA rules. Announcing a raft of suspensions right before the team’s most prominent game on their schedule sure makes the players look bad, and takes some of the heat off CSU’s administrators.

Charleston Southern is apparently really going to be shorthanded when it plays Florida State on Saturday.

The word “electronics” is a little vague – was it a calculator or a MacBook? – but the idea that the players had to purchase what they needed Top Chef-style is a little freaky.

CSU wide receiver Colton Korn posted online that he and his fellow teammates were unaware that using excess funds to purchase additional items from the bookstore was an NCAA violation.

Minus 14 players, including 10 starters, Charleston Southern was minus any chance against Florida State. “We would have left over book money and the workers in the bookstore advised us to spend the money because we would not get it back, so we did”. “Hopefully, we got out here healthy, we represented ourselves well and we get our check (from Florida State) on the way out”.

Charleston Southern linebacker Seth Harrelson came up with the interception. The redshirt freshman played the second half of last Saturday’s 57-7 win over Kentucky State after Kyle Copeland (knee) and Shane Bucenell (leg) suffered injuries. Korn, who is among the players suspended, said employees encouraged the players to “use it because it disappears if we don’t”.

“I was very proud of the way we started the game”.

Cirone wrote that he and the entire offensive line have been suspended.

Louisville is a ACC divisional foe and has one of the hottest players in college football putting up insane offensive numbers in quarterback Lamar Jackson. Taking away some seniors’ shot to impress National Football League scouts and hurting our image as men who have done our best to change the entire image of a program that was nothing short of a joke when we first got here. This is the second time in two years I am ineligible to participate due issues that could of been avoided if the necessary steps were taken by Charleston Southern.
