This film has collected $ 35 million in revenue for a budget of $ 60 million. They’re already in the profit mode.

As counterprogramming to the “highbrow” Sully, the mystery Bough is “an example of a guilty pleasure not chasing Oscar”, says Dergarabedian, adding that like The Perfect Guy, which topped the box office a year ago, it’s another successful early fall mashup of romance, horror and suspense with a predominantly African-American cast. The new animated film snagged $3.4 million, despite scathing reviews (15% approval on Rotten Tomatoes).
The erotic thriller stars Morris Chestnut and Regina Hall as a couple who hire a surrogate in a desperate bid to have a baby.
Aaron Eckhart stars as First Officer Jeffrey Skiles and Laura Linney plays Sullenberger’s spouse Lorraine. It joins both Captain Phillips and Bridge of Spies as Hanks films with A Cinemascores, as it seems like a Tom Hanks renaissance at the box office. This includes $2.3 million from Australia, $925,000 in Russian Federation and $929,000 from the United Arab Emirates. The film opened with $15 million in sales, missing the $17.7 million estimate from Hollywood Stock Exchange.
“When the Bough Breaks” generated a B CinemaScore with an audience that was 62 percent female and 61 percent over 25 with Sony distribution president Rory Bruer asserting that those numbers indicate holding power in the coming weeks. Don’t Breathe, in the meantime, fell from its first-place perch to third, but with an estimated $8.2 million and $66.8 million put away against a $9.9 million budget, the critically acclaimed horror entry does not appear too anxious.
On the kids front, with most films having shuffled off and nowhere near enough people going to see Kubo and the Two Strings, Lionsgate brought out The Wild Life, which is known as Robinson Crusoe overseas.

Elsewhere, Suicide Squad managed to snatch fourth place with an estimated $5.7 million. It cost just $9.9 million to make. The Disappointments Room, directed by D.J. Caruso (I Am Number Four) and starring Kate Beckinsale, earned a disastrous $1.4 million from 1,550 theaters. Sully had a hot opening day gross of $12.2 million, putting it on track for a $30 million plus opening weekend.
