Game of Thrones just broke a massive record

It brings Game of Thrones’s total (so far) to 35 wins, which makes it the most awarded Emmy drama in the show’s history; the previous record holders, The West Wing and Hill Street Blues, had 26 awards each.

Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the 68th annual ceremony is led in nominations by Game of Thrones, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, and Fargo.

Making a Murderer and Grease Live! each landed four wins.

Thanks to the increased presence of White Walkers and Children of the Forest in Season 6, the need for extra impressive prosthetic makeup increased this year, but we’d argue there were better contenders for this category than “Game of Thrones”.

Amy Poehler won’t be able to host an Emmy losers party anymore.

It was a ninth Emmy for Poehler but a first for Fey, and also the first time two women had shared the prize.

British star James Corden was honoured for The Late, Late Show with James Corden (interactive programme) and his Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special (outstanding variety special).

But, don’t worry, Downton Abbey didn’t go home empty handed, winning Production Design For A Narrative Period Program (One Hour Or More)’ as well as ‘ Hairstyling for a Single-Camera Series’. GOT won the Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series, Limited Series or Movie, Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series, Outstanding Special Visual Effects, Best Costumes for a Period/Fantasy series and Best Production Design for Contemporary or Fantasy. I really did not expect this. And staying in the animated category, Seth MacFarlane won an Emmy for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for his roles as Peter, Stewie.

“Portlandia” didn’t prevail in other Creative Arts Emmys this weekend, however. Though nominated, the show lost in the outstanding writing for a variety series category to the team from HBO’s “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”.
