Arsenal poised to finalize long-term contracts with Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez

However it would now seem that the 101 times capped worldwide will sign a new deal with the Gunners, after The Mirror reported that both Sanchez and Mesut Ozil were close to signing new deals.

According to Steve Stammers in the Mirror, the pair are “poised” to pen new deals, with their current contracts both expiring in 2018.

“Ozil and Sanchez, we will start to talk for their extensions”, Wenger said, ahead of his side’s clash with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The pair’s worldwide commitments for Germany and Chile over the summer meant negotiations had to be put on hold which sparked speculation of possible moves away from the Emirates.

That has given Arsenal optimism that Sanchez – like Ozil – will remain at the club.

And now Wenger has revealed that the Gunners will go about attempting to secure the long-term futures of both players in the coming weeks.

The two are close friends and defender Mustafi’s arrival could be a factor in Ozil deciding to add three more years to his present contract.
