UFC heavyweight champion and OH native Stipe Miocic (16-2) received a disclosed purse of $600,000 for his first-round knockout victory over Alistair Overeem.
“He hit harder than I thought, he knocked me down but I wasn’t hurt”.
Overeem nearly ruined things for Miocic when he knocked him on his butt and attempted to end the fight.
CLEVELAND (AP) – Stipe Miocic climbed to the top of the octagon and threw his legs over its sides, straddling the cage like he was riding a horse. In a matter of seconds, Miocic was in a full mount position standing over Overeem and delivered a barrage of punches to Overeem’s skull, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
“I became friends with him, he’s a nice guy, I like him, I’ve got a lot of respect for him”. I’m not sure what is coming now. “I wanted to shut him down, turn the mother board off”.
CM Punk’s UFC debut went how most expected as the former WWE superstar was routed by Mickey Gall, losing via rear-naked choke in the first round.
Punk is unlikely to compete in the UFC again but said he wants to continue his fighting career.
“I don’t know how I can tap out when I have two hands on his hands”, Miocic said. “I’m just disappointed. I’m beating myself up way more than I got beat up”. “I remember I was in the back signing my check and all that stuff and I heard the boos and I asked what they were booing about cause I knew that was talking and they told me that he said that I tapped out. I will be back, believe it or not”, Punk said. He put me on my ass, you know. “This was the most fun I’ve had in my life, second best night of my life after marrying my wife”.

The champion earned $600,000 (£450,000) while former heavyweight ruler Fabricio Werdum took home $375,000 (£280,000) for defeating Travis Browne.
