Chubb, Eason shine as Georgia rises to #9
So did Georgia, like perhaps it’s not as ready for prime time as its No. 9 ranking would indicate.

“I understand that everybody wants to know and you have a right to know once we know”, Smart told host Scott Howard.
“I want to [name a full-time starter], but it may not resolve itself”, Smart told reporters on Tuesday after practice.
A subtle shot at Mark Richt.
Chubb had a key blitz pickup on a third-down completion from Greyson Lambert to Michael Chigbu for nine yards as Georgia kept the chains moving to end the game.
Chubb and the Bulldogs have their first home game of the season this coming Saturday. The 66-yard score was the longest receiving touchdown for the Bulldogs since Aaron Murray connected for an 83-yard score with Todd Gurley versus Florida in 2013. Eason was 11-20-1 for 204 yards and one touchdown. “We’ve got two guys that can throw the ball effectively”. Chubb had a nice block to help the Bulldogs avoid disaster.
“It could always change”, Smart said. “We’re going to play our best for whoever”. The offensive line struggled mightily in this game. “It’s frustrating. A lot of guys didn’t execute, didn’t play well, and that’s my responsibility”.
“They see so much more, they throw so much more, they’ve seen a lot of the defenses before”, Smart said. The kick was good, and with 2:06 left in the half, Nicholls had cut the lead to three, 10-7. On the return, punter Tyler St. Germain got just enough of McKenzie’s leg to trip him up to prevent a would-be touchdown. Nick Chubb was held under a hundred yards rushing for only the second time as a full-time starter in his college career. “(We weren’t) really tense, more like stunned for a minute. Tim Rebowe is opening his second season as the Nicholls coach, following a 3-8 debut season. But I will say that they controlled it against our offense, and that was surprising.
Smart warned his team during the week that he didn’t think they pushed North Carolina around. “Their defense whipped us up front. They just whooped us”.
The second: Will Georgia maintain junior Nick Chubb’s workload? But the offense again failed to move the ball, and a 52-yard field goal attempt by Ham was wide. Hall finished the game with 6 tackles, 3 of which were solo. It will be the opener for Nicholls, a FCS team. “We found out some things today about our team”.
That momentum kept going until late in the game. McKenzie went to field a punt, but he fumbled allowing the Colonels to recover and then score a touchdown to make the score 26-24. He had a SEC best six interceptions last season.

Nicholls: QB Tuskani Figaro, a senior, is a dual threat. However, both interceptions led to punts. Another freshman tailback, Brian Herrien ran for 59 yards with a touchdown on seven carries last week and could play a bigger role. Smart said he did not limit how many snaps Michel was playing.
