JLR to introduce new engines to reduce vehicle emissions
Jaguar Land Rover is finally starting to build petrol Ingenium engines at its new engine plant, delivering improved performance and economy. With the new additions, the company aims to reduce vehicle emissions and improve fuel economy across its range through more efficient engines along with alternative powertrains, lighter vehicles and improved vehicle energy conservation.

While Jaguar hasn’t revealed outputs for the new engines, it says that they reduce fuel consumption by up to 15 per cent and deliver 25 per cent more power than the petrol engines they replace.
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has expanded its modular ‘Ingenium’ engine family this week, with the new 2.0-litre petrol powerplant now in production at the company’s Engine Manufacturing Centre in the UK.
The Ingenium petrol engine is a technology forward proposition, with an electrohydraulic valvetrain, integrated exhaust manifold and twin scroll turbocharger with ceramic ball bearing technology. The all-new engine also promises to meet “the most stringent global emissions regulations”, which is pretty nice and all.
It’s nearly two years since Jaguar Land Rover’s new Ingenium Engine Plant opened, but since then it’s actually only produced four-cylinder diesel engines. “All Ingenium engines deliver benchmark low levels of friction, contributing to inherently good efficiency and refinement”. The new transmission runs a wide ratio spread of 20:1 (more than double a conventional eight-speed automatic transmission) and integrates a low-range gearbox, dual clutch and hybrid technologies “to deliver new levels of off-road performance and fuel economy improvements of almost 10%”.
Dubbed TRANSCEND, the gearbox can be used in longitudinal rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles and according to Jaguar, will prove particularly useful for its off-road vehicles.

TRANSCEND demonstrates Jaguar Land Rover’s commitment to original research that improves the driving experience and the environmental performance of our vehicles.
