A decision on the outcome of her appeal was initially expected on July 18 but CAS then postponed the decision till September.

Canton of Vaud: The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said Tuesday it would deliver an appeal verdict on the two-year doping ban for Maria Sharapova in early October.

Sharapova, 29, was banned from competition by the International Tennis Federation in June following after serving a provisional suspension since March, when it was announced she had failed a drugs test at the Australian Open in January.

The 29-year-old chose to challenge the suspension and a statement from CAS has now confirmed a decision on Sharapova’s future will be made at the start of October.

Delays have been caused by both parties carefully preparing defences of their position as Sharapova seeks a reduction of the Tribunal’s decision to sanction her with a two-year period.

Meldonium was added to the list of banned substances by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) at the start of the year after mounting evidence that it boosted blood flow and enhanced athletic performance.
