David Luiz set for shock Chelsea return

DAVID Luiz is on the verge of a Chelsea return, two years after being sold to Paris St Germain for £50million. When the Blues let Luiz go in 2014, PSG reportedly paid roughly $8 million more in transfer fees than the $45 million that Chelsea is reportedly paying now.

Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte is short of numbers at the back and had already signed Fiorentina’s Marcos Alonso for a fee of £20.5m on what proved to be a busy deadline day.

Luiz had first joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2011 and the Brazil global won the FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League during his initial spell at Stamford Bridge.

David Luiz has been branded a defensive “liability” who has become a worse player since leaving Chelsea two years ago.

PSG had previously turned down approaches from Chelsea for both Luiz and his Brazilian team-mate Marquinhos, telling them that neither defender was for sale.

In what was arguably one of the stranger moves of transfer deadline day, the Blues forked out £34m to bring the 29-year-old defender back to Stamford Bridge.

During Luiz’s first spell at Stamford Bridge, he played 143 games, scoring 12 goals and getting 10 assists.

“I don’t want to buy just to buy, I want to buy the right player for Chelsea, for the present, for the future, with a good prospect”.

The terms of the deal take Cuadrado to the end of the four-and-a-half-year contract he signed on joining Chelsea in February 2015.

“It was an easy decision for me to make when I heard the club were interested in signing me”.

“Of course I want to win the Premier League, but of course I want to win all the other titles [Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup] again”.
