US Nuclear-Capable Bombers Fly Over South Korea to Warn Off Pyongyang

Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Lee Sun-jin said, “As we warned multiple times, if North Korea continues its aggressive behavior and develops nuclear weapons, it will meet retaliatory actions that will shake the very foundation of the regime’s existance”.

Such flyovers are common during higher-than-normal animosity on the Korean Peninsula, which is technically in a state of war as there has never been a peace treaty to end the 1950-53 Korean War. There are many things about North Korea that we can not know. the nuclear strategy of DPRK is crystal clear – for Pyongyang has been doggedly pursuing this very same game plan single-mindedly, for decades on end.

The policy of U.S.in the peninsula has been to deter North Korea over past 60 years.

China – Pyongyang’s sole ally and largest benefactor – had a key role to play in showing North Korea the “serious consequences for its unlawful and risky actions”, Kim said. Videos of such flyovers appear in North Korean propaganda as evidence of USA hostility, the AP notes.

“Our intention is to secure the strongest possible [UN Security Council] resolution that includes new sanctions as quickly as possible”, Kim announced after meeting his South Korean counterpart. The US and South Korea recently agreed to deploy an additional THAAD battery in South Korea – all of which is oriented against the threat from North Korea, he said.

The DPRK announced on September 9 that it had successfully conducted an explosion test of nuclear warhead that can be mounted on ballistic missiles.

The US also keeps more than 28,000 troops in the South, and tens of thousands more in Japan.

Pyongyang’s claim to have used standardized warheads in the detonation makes some outsiders worry that it is making headway in its push to develop small, sophisticated warheads that can be mounted on missiles that can reach the United States mainland.

Inoki entered politics by creating his own “Sports and Peace Party” and has organized two wrestling tournaments in Pyongyang, the most recent of which featured three Americans as well as Japanese wrestlers.

Six-nation diplomatic talks aimed at ridding the North of its bombs have been stalled since the last round of meetings in late 2008.

After last week’s test, the North’s nuclear weapons institute said it would take unspecified measures to further boost its nuclear capability, which analysts said hinted at a possible sixth nuclear test.

The flyover, meanwhile, was originally scheduled on Monday but postponed due to “inclement weather conditions” in Guam, the USFK said.

Speaking in the South Korean capital on Tuesday, Sung Kim, the USA envoy on North Korea, added that the United States remained open to authentic, meaningful dialogue with Pyongyang on ending its pursuit of nuclear weapons.

The UN in March issued Resolution 2270, which imposed harsh commercial sanctions on Pyongyang, as a response to its fourth nuclear test and the launch of a space rocket carrying missile technology in January. Seoul, Washington and their allies have vowed to apply more pressure and sanctions after the test, the second this year.
