The PS4 Pro will go on sale from November 10 at a suggested retail price of 44,980 yen ($399), tax exclusive. It will offer 4K gaming, displaying hyper-realistic graphics and immersive visuals – as long as it is hooked up to a HDR, or high dynamic range TV.

The lower-end PS4 model, which goes on sale from September 15, is about 30 percent smaller and 16 percent lighter than the current PS4.

Sony is also rolling out a more compact version of the Playstation 4.

Games displayed in 4K have four times as many pixels in each frame as 1080p HD images, making them look crisper and clearer on television, as informed by the Sony.

In another sign of this new reality, Microsoft Corp. unveiled the Xbox One S, a slimmer update to its Xbox One console, in June at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, where new consoles are traditionally unveiled.

“I’m happy to announce that a new Netflix app will be available for PS4 Pro at launch and by the end of the year, 600 hours of 4K content will be available on Netflix”.

Highlighting the fact that Sony’s strategy for the PS4 Pro console has been “to foster streamlined rendering techniques that can take advantage of custom hardware”, Mark Cerny – the technical chief of PlayStation – said during the PlayStation presentation on Wednesday: “When coupled with best-in-breed temporal and spatial anti-aliasing algorithms, the results can be astonishing”. The PlayStation 4 released almost three years ago in November 2013. It will likely be hardcore gamers who buy the new console.
