Stipe Miocic fires back at Alistair Overeem accusing him of tapping out

Miocic was hurt early, but he recovered and scored the knockout win over Overeem near the end of the first round.

Things looked as if they could go the other way initially after Overeem floored Miocic with a left hand, but the champ managed to escape a guillotine choke. But it wasn’t without some adversity, as “The Reem” stayed fleet of foot to counter Miocic, actually putting him on the ground with a well-timed shot at one point. Overeem later claimed Miocic had tapped and the referee missed it, but replays could not verify his claim. Overeem went for a kick to the knee and slipped, and Miocic went work. “I didn’t get to the summit tonight but it doesn’t mean I’m going to give up, it doesn’t mean I’m going anywhere, it doesn’t mean I’m going to stop”. Just being out there under the lights was the most fun I’ve ever had and to say it again, the second best day of my life.

It is unknown who Miocic will defend the title against next, and it is unknown what the next step will be for Overeem.

Overeem nearly ruined things for Miocic when he knocked him on his butt and attempted to end the fight.

Overeem was insistent when speaking to UFC commentator Joe Rogan after the defeat when speaking about Miocic’s alleged tap.

It was a thunderous collision between the two heavyweights, with Miocic stopping the fight in the first round. Miocic lands a nice 2 punch combination. The finishing sequence began when Miocic caught a side kick aimed at his legs, a staple of Overeem’s game since joining Jackson-Wink MMA in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Overeem connected with a stinging left hand that staggered Miocic before following him to the ground where he applied the choke.
