3 dead, 10 injured in multi-vehicle crash in New York City

A driver on a NY highway who lost control of his auto Wednesday and crashed into a barrier, splitting the vehicle in half and triggering other collisions, was killed along with two of his passengers, police said.

The six-vehicle collision occurred on the Long Island Expressway in Maspeth around 4:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Investigators said a 2010 black Infiniti sedan carrying five people was traveling eastbound at a high speed when the driver, 25-year-old Michael.

The driver of the Acura refused medical attention.

According to police, up to 11 others were injured in the crashes.

“I went into a cloud of debris and hit another auto”.

On Aug. 21, another crash on the expressway, near Manorville, Long Island, claimed six lives.

Two are in serious but stable condition. According to NBC New York, the other vehicles involved in the crash were a dark Toyota, along with a yellow taxi cab and also a black Acura auto.

Four other vehicles then collided in an attempt to avoid the accident, they said.

The Queens-bound lower-level lanes near Maurice Avenue closed for four hours early Wednesday and reopened by 9 a.m.

The News said it was unclear what caused the accident.

Among those killed was Scott Martella, 29, of Northport, a communications director for Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and a former aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo. His 10-year-old son, Cristopher, was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
