‘South Park’ season 20 premiere taking on National Anthem

If you think South Park might be just turning a blind eye to the issue of police brutality that Kaepernick is protesting against, think again – they covered that 12 years ago, and again just last season. According to Deadline Hollywood, the first episode is entitled “Members Berries” and will be about how a national icon reboots the National Anthem.

As for the Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton’s appearance in “South Park” season 20, series creator Trey Parker admitted that they never intend to feature Trump as a character. The reason behind the anthem change has not yet been revealed, but since Mr. Garrison is running for President it could have something to do with that storyline.

Kaepernick continued his protest of the national anthem Monday night and the movement has grown since he first refused to stand during the preseason.

Black Lives Matter will also factor into this season, as Cartman can be seen wearing a “Token’s Life Matters” shirt on Comedy Central’s website. With so much happening in the world right now, the Comedy Central staple has a lot to say – and a lot to sing about, apparently.

It’s tough to look beyond this coming season though, considering Stone and Parker must be antsy to start their 10-episode run during the boiling point of what promises to be a contentious, to put it lightly, 2016 election.

What does “Member Berries” mean? Fans will also not have to wait long until the show returns.
