Pope Francis Declares Mother Theresa Saint

After officiating the canonization Mass for Mother Teresa of Calcutta on Sunday, Pope Francis played host to 1,500 poor people from a number of Italian cities, throwing them a pizza party in the Vatican.

Meanwhile, inside Chicago’s St. John Cantius Parish on the North Side, a member of Teresa’s own Missionaries of Charity order referred to the freshly canonized saint as “Mother Teresa”.

Pope Francis however, held world powers to account “for the crimes of poverty they created”. Pope Francis made the official declaration during a canonization mass held at the Vatican, where thousands of fans gathered to praise the late nun for her huge charity work.

Francis said that even though the nun had been declared a saint, she would always be Mother Teresa to the Catholic family.

“All of us are called to be holy, and we look to the saints to help us to become better people”, said Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio of the Diocese of Brooklyn.
