In a statement, Vodafone Chief Strategy Officer Dan Lloyd said that “We expect the Lebara Mobile brand to become an even stronger force in the Australian mobile market”.

The Lebara brand will continue to operate and its customers will see no change to their service.

Vodafone Hutchison Australia has purchased the local mobile business assets of Lebara, the telco announced today.

“Lebara Mobile has established a market-leading niche, enabling migrant communities to stay connected with their loved ones overseas, particularly through very competitive and award-winning global mobile calling”, said Dan Lloyd, chief strategy officer at VHA, in a statement.

It reportedly plans to retain the Lebara brand and to continue using existing retail channels and customer service resources.

Its parent Lebara Group, headquartered in the United Kingdom, was founded in 2001 and counts 1000 employees and 5 million active customers across its operations in eight countries, all of which are located within Europe with the exception of Australia.

Lebara Mobile has been a Vodafone MVNO since 2009 when it brought its operations to Australia.

‘Lebara Mobile has established a market-leading niche, enabling migrant communities to stay connected with their loved ones overseas, particularly through very competitive and award-winning worldwide mobile calling’. “We look forward to championing the Lebara Mobile brand to offer choice and value to Australia’s strong and growing migrant communities”.
