Diego Costa acrobatics earn Chelsea draw with Swansea

The 27-year-old has now scored four goals for Chelsea this season, three of which have come after the 80th minute, to help keep the Blues’ unbeaten record in the Premier League in tact. Sigurdsson slammed the penalty down the middle, giving Courtois no chance to redeem himself.

Cahill said he went to see referee Andre Marriner after the game about the incident.

Television replays suggested the defender had been fouled, but Fer was allowed to advance before rolling the ball beneath Courtois.

“I like it when a player shows his passion for this sport”.

“I think Chelsea deserved to win this game”.

“I don’t know the extent of the injury, but tomorrow we will see the situation about his ankle”, said Conte.

Swansea manager Francesco Guidolin felt the match-up had been a fair contest, and refused to be critical of Costa staying down after several tussles with his centre-halves.

A furious Gary Cahill was bemused that three referees missed what he describes as a “clear foul” by Leroy Fer in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Swansea last night.

However, Costa managed to grab the equaliser in the final 10 minutes – although there were calls for him to not even be on the pitch at that moment following a series of indiscretions.

Chelsea was coasting before 130 seconds of defensive mayhem let Swansea back into a one-sided game, starting with Courtois’ decision to come to the edge of the penalty area to challenge Sigurdsson at the end of a Swansea counterattack.

Rejuvenated by the goal, Swansea took no time to take the lead.

Costa, 27, has been fantastic so far this term, netting four goals in four games, including winners against West Ham United and Watford.

Firmino opened the scoring in the 13th minute after being found by a superb pass by James Milner, taking a touch to evade the defenders before finishing calmly across Kasper Schmeichel’s goal. “We are disappointed because the performance was very good in terms of our intensity and because we played good football”, he bemoaned.

“For their second goal, I think anyone can see the foul on Cahill”. Probably, with the change of shape, we played in the second half with more aggression, energy and intensity. “He’s a good guy and he understood – there’s no problem between us”.

Guidolin said: “I saw his Juventus team which won three titles and he saw the way he managed that side to their success”.
