Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition Hits All the Nostalgia Notes

It’s been a turbulent road for the Blue Blur ever since he made the jump to 3D, with many hoping to see a return to his 2D platforming roots. You get a Sonic Mania Sega cartridge with a golden ring attached to it, some sort of metallic card, and a big ol’ Sonic statue so you can fully appreciate this video game icon in a physical form.

Included in the package is a Sonic statue placed atop a miniature Genesis acting as the base, which can even make the classic Sega startup sound.

The official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account tweeted a picture and link this morning, unveiling a Collector’s Edition for one of the two anticipated Sonic games, Sonic Mania.

The stand doesn’t just resemble the Genesis, though; it also maintains the console’s best function, playing games aside.

In case you’ve never played a Sonic game, had pledged Team Nintendo in the ’90s or are just a philistine, take a moment and listen.

“This Collector’s Edition is the ideal blend of past and present Sonic, and contains items we know fans new and old will really appreciate”, said Ivo Gerscovich, Chief Brand Officer of Sonic Pillar and SVP of SEGA of America.

That’s because the bonuses that come packed in with the Sonic Mania collector’s edition are heavily themed around the Sega Genesis (or the Mega Drive if you happen to be reading this from Europe).

Sonic Mania was revealed earlier this year alongside another Sonic game that doesn’t have a title yet.

All in all, it’s a pretty slick packaged deal, one that really nails the throwback appeal of Sonic Mania.
