Pre-Orders of iPhone 7 Are ‘Biggest Ever,’ Say Sprint and T

(NASDAQ:TMUS) president and CEO John Legere announced: “iPhone 7 is the biggest pre-order in T-Mobile’s history, and that says a lot about our momentum, and the excitement customers have for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus!”.

In preparation for the iPhone 7 arrival, T-Mobile and Sprint introduced unlimited data plans. The conventional wisdom has been that the new AirPods will be easier to lose, and Apple will take more of your money as you are forced to purchase replacement after replacement. In terms of pre-registrations, the carrier announced that Apple’s new smartphone bested both the iPhone 6s and the “smash-hit” iPhone 6, which suggests that there is huge interest in the new generation.

The carriers’ reports contradict a survey released Monday that said iPhone 7 demand was down compared with the demand for the iPhone 6 past year.

Sprint today announced that, in the first three days, pre-orders for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are more than 375 percent higher compared to a year ago. It also said pre-registrations before then also broke records. However, the improvements in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are also a high contributing factor for this new record.

Apple’s job now will be to scale up production of the jet-black iPhones to try to bring supply in line with demand as quickly as possible. Instead of the button physically moving, as has been the case from day one on the first iPhone, the home button on the iPhone 7 stays put. The weekend pre-orders up surged threefold versus those for iPhone 6.

Samsung’s exploding phones have provided Apple with a golden opportunity to boost its sales numbers.

The obvious positive here is that there is very clear demand for the jet-black iPhone 7 Plus models – two of the most expensive iPhones that the iDevice maker now offers for sale.

In another note, Rosenblatt Securities’ Jun Zhang stated that Apple’s three OEM suppliers would ship 15-16 million iPhone 7 units before Sep 16.
