‘Emotional’ Taylor Swift talks about her mom’s cancer while performing ‘Ronan’
Thompson, who’s credited as a co-writer on the tune, was in the audience at Swift’s show on Monday, August 17, so the “Style” hitmaker took the opportunity to offer a special dedication.

The 25 year old singer started by saying how one of the bravest things anyone could ever do is to experience something unbearable and to share it with the world. “And…so because Maya is right there, I’d like for you to give her a round of applause”.
Taylor is due to play a second night at the Gila River Arena on Tuesday night – which the Thompson family will once again attend – before she continues her 1989 tour with a five night stint at the Staples Center in LA.
Taylor Swift teared up throughout a passionate one-off performance of her most poignant song Ronan. “And I wouldn’t know half as much as I know about childhood cancer and childhood cancer research if she hadn’t shared her story about her son Ronan“, she continued. “I love you to the moon and back”. “I’d like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know”, she wrote.
As Gossip Cop previously reported, Swift first performed “Ronan” at the 2012 “Stand Up To Cancer” telethon. “You have my heart for the rest of my life and beyond”.
“I’m saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer”. “I still can’t believe tonight”, Thompson wrote in her Instagram caption. His mother, Maya Thompson was in the audience when Swift performed and the singer wasted no time to acknowledge the presence of Ronan’s mom.

Maya worked through her grief by continuing the blog, writing heartbreaking letters to her late son, whilst also raising money and awareness for childhood cancer causes. “I can’t promise that I will sing it well or not get really emotional, but I’m gonna try…I think because Maya’s here tonight, I think she deserves it”. Growing up on a Christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania, she was a long way from the life she leads now-complete with sold-out tours, hit songs and high-profile romances. (Proceeds for the song go to various cancer charities, including the Ronan Thompson Foundation.).
