Salsa’s back: Cruz has go-ahead score in return for Giants

If New York Giantsreceiver Victor Cruz had drawn up a storybook return, it might’ve looked something like what unfolded in Sunday’s opener against the Dallas Cowboys.

The game was not over there, however, as the Giants’ defense was challenged to earn its $200 million, twice on back-to-back possessions late in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile the defense confised rookie QB Dak Prescott enough that Dallas had to settle for four field goals as the Dallas offense stalled. Bailey would go on to hit another field goal to put Dallas back up 9-7 before the teams exchanged the lead three times down the stretch. The Cowboys were debuting two rookies on offense who received quite a bit of praise from the offseason. Without any timeouts, the Cowboys were reduced to either spiking the ball or running out of bounds to stop the clock. Dan Bailey made field goals of 54 and 56 yards.

Elliott did struggle with finding open holes to run through and hesitate multiple times in the backfield. Despite looking better overall, the team still couldn’t win with Romo’s replacement, Dak Prescott playing quarterback. Prescott also had 2 carries for 12 yards which I think will pick up as well if the offensive line cannot give him the time needed to be able to pass the ball.

If they could get to the NY 40 or so on the next play, they would still have time to get Bailey out on the field to attempt a 57-yarder.

Based on what we saw in this situation a year ago it nearly feels that making a prediction one way or another is a lost cause.

They’ll need a lot of yards to beat the Saints and their high-octane defense Sunday. Finally, the Giants got a win on Sunday that they would not have in 2015.

Because for much of the day Prescott (25 of 45, 227 yards, no turnovers) looked every bit as good as Eli Manning (19 of 28, 207 yards, one interception). I’m sure there are doubts about his ability, but he came out and led us. They were a better running team when Alfred Morris was in the game.

“I thought it was great”. That is a good sign for the team moving forward.

Bryant did have a catch that was almost a touchdown, but replay caused it to be overturned. That’s trite to say that.

“We have to go in and make the corrections from the first game”, he said.

The perception is Zeke Elliott didn’t run the ball very well.

“It was a poor decision on his part”, said Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett, slowly dying inside. Average. That’s not why I was brought here to be average, so we’ve got a lot of work to get done. “We’ll continue to attack Dez and go after them in those coverages when they give them to us”. But, you know, it’s the NFL.

“He had three good chances in the game and unfortunately we weren’t able to connect on them”, Garrett said.
