Kendrys Morales: Morales’ two jacks powers Royals past Twins

Coming off a disappointing homestand, and on the edge of the AL wild-card race, the Kansas City Royals can’t afford to let too many more opportunities slip away.

Dillon Gee gave up three runs and eight hits and struck out two in six innings.

The Royals took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on run-scoring hits by Kendrys Morales and Whit Merrifield.

Jarrod Dyson had three hits and scored three times for Kansas City, which won for the second time in six games.

NATIONALS 6, BRAVES 4: Trea Turner and Chris Heisey each homered during a five-run third inning, Max Scherzer pitched seven strong innings for his 16th victory and the Washington Nationals beat the Atlanta Braves 6-4 on Monday.

A walk and a fielder’s choice moved Sano to third base, and he scampered home with the eventual winning run on Eduardo Escobar’s two-out single to left field. “We still feel that we’re not out of this thing by any stretch of the imagination”.

Incredibly, Dozier has hit 22 home runs in his past 36 games. Sans a homer-less September 1 game, Dozier has now homered in six of his last seven games, which is building off the 13 home run month of August he had.

“It’s been some time now where I’ve been starting to feel really, really good”, Morales said through an interpreter.

Kennedy allowed four earned runs in 5 1-3 innings and is 4-0 in his past five starts.

NOTES: The Royals recalled INF Christian Colon from Triple-A Omaha. Eleven of those hits came in five innings against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday, but Santana managed to limit the damage to two runs and escape with a win.

Dozier has hit a majors-most 25 home runs since the All-Star break. “I hope it’s not”, said Plouffe, who is making $7.25 million with one more year of eligibility for salary arbitration.

“The best way to (get him out) is don’t throw fastballs down the middle and that’s what we did”, Yost said.

The lead was short lived, however, as Minnesota blasted a pair of solo home runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 2-2. Rookie Max Kepler did it at Cleveland. Dozier is keeping his hands much closer to his body as he begins his swing, which may be allowing him to get the bat through the zone much more quickly than before. He smacked a trio of round trippers on Monday to celebrate Labor Day, becoming just the sixth player in team history to do that, and followed that up with a lead off homer Tuesday night in another loss to Kansas City.
