Exploring the final frontier, Star Trek offered peace, paper says
The science fiction TV series created by Gene Roddenberry in 1966 only ran for three seasons, but warped into five more shows and 13 films, including the latest “Star Trek Beyond” starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Simon Pegg. To commemorate the occasion, Facebook has made a decision to come up with custom reactions as a tribute.

The social network is celebrating “Star Trek’s” 50th anniversary on Thursday with new “Like” buttons that tap some of the sci-fi series’ most iconic characters. It’s great that BBC airs Star Trek: The Next Generation every day, but they do cut the episodes down to add extra commericals. “Love” has been turned into a Vulcan split-finger greeting, the “Haha” face has a Captain Kirk hairdo (sadly there is not enough detail to imply a toupee), “Wow” gets the Spock treatment, “Sad” looks like Geordi La Forge from The Next Generation and “Angry” has the ridged brow of a Klingon.
Facebook users who have liked the official Star Trek page on the site are getting a few special treats to mark the half-century milestone.
That suggests that you will only ever see these variations if you tell Facebook you’re interested in Star Trek – revealing only the bare minimum of information about yourself will exclude you from the fun.
Live long and prosper.
Not everyone will see the Star Trek-inspired content, however. For those lucky fans, the new Star Trek theme will be up in the United States and Canada – on both desktop and the mobile apps – “for a limited time”.

The original series opened to harsh reviews, and was cancelled after only 3 seasons, but today after 50 years the show lives on.
