Should you upgrade to the iPhone 7?

T-Mobile US and Sprint are both touting success connected to pre-orders of Apple’s latest iPhone 7 devices. Trip Chowdhry, managing director of equity research at Global Equities Research, wrote in a September 13 report that the strong early preorder figures being seen by carriers indicates that the iPhone 7 handsets will likely sell very well. He continued, “The first four days of the iPhone 7 launch are by far the biggest ever for T-Mobile”.

Apple’s announcement of its AirPods went over like a lead balloon, with many upset that the iPhone 7’s headphone jack had been removed to make way for the wireless earbuds. In Geekbench’s testing, the iPhone 7 Plus scored 5,363 for the multi-core test and 3,233 for the single-core test. In addition, the $159 wireless headphones called AirPods that Apple is marketing with the iPhone 7 only provide five hours of listening time or two hours of phone time per charge, he said.

This strong sales data flies in the face of heavy criticism Apple faced for the new device, which lacks a traditional headphone jack and uses the exact same form factor as the iPhone 6.

The arrival of a new iPhone is also a key time for carriers to get people thinking about switching service.

“In years past, we’ve announced how many new iPhones had been sold as of the first weekend following launch”, the statement noted.

The attachment is already available for purchase on Amazon, though they won’t start filling orders until October 17th.

For that reason, the company said it decided that initial sales figures were “no longer a representative metric for our investors and customers”. Apple’s Beats brand will also offer new wireless headphones that use the same W1 chip used in the AirPods.
