Will Microsoft end Lumia sales by year’s end?

Microsoft has also been reported to end the Lumia lineup during the month of December and possibly replace it with something better, hopefully a brand new lineup of Surface phones.

In Australia carriers and retailers are moving to dump stock with one carrier sales executive claiming that “there is simply no interest whatsoever in a Microsoft Windows smartphone”. Gone are days where we used to watch the launch of the Microsoft Lumia-branded smartphones powered by Windows 8 and Windows 10. We may even see a Surface Phone as soon as October, potentially around the same time as the first Surface all-in-one PC, which was also recently rumoured to be coming in October. The Lumia 950 XL, however, bumps up the screen size to a whopping 5.7 inches. The company had tried to revive the lineup with Lumia 950 and 950 XL past year, but the devices failed to impress.

The earlier Surface devices were not flawless for many users, but people can’t deny that the Surface team finally got things right with their latest devices.

It is expected that HP will also reveal its Elite x3 Windows phone in the USA on September 16th that will compensate Lumia cellphones.

There are no updates yet on the release date of the Microsoft Surface Phone. Prior to supposed plans to leave the smartphone business Microsoft made restructuring plans that saw 1,850 jobs cut from its global workforce. I’ve always appreciated the Tiles-based approach of Windows Phone and the emphasis Lumia devices placed on the camera. Microsoft’s Director of Engineering, Laura Butler, tweeted, “Surface Phone is not NOT confirmed”. Would any of you guys consider grabbing a Surface Phone at all? Some reports claim that the tech giant is killing the Lumia series to focus on Surface branded smartphones, which as per Winbeta will be ready for an October launch, but the exact timing is now unclear.
