PlayStation 4 update v4.00 “Shingen” has started rolling out, brings HDR

The new, slim PS4 will give gamers an additional choice for how they wish to enjoy PlayStation content, according to KEF Media. HDR is being pushed as a major feature of the PS4 Pro, so it’s definitely surprising to see Sony hand out HDR support to everybody with this patch.

– All PS4s are now high dynamic range (HDR) capable.

“Just to confirm: Farming Simulator17 mod support on both Xbox One AND PS4 will be available when the game comes out”, the developer posted on the official Twitter account of the game. So that means that tomorrow, with System Update 4.00, my launch PS4 will be able to display HDR on my 4K HDR display. Music section is now more seamless as it allows you to control Spotify music.

The software update, version 4.00 (code-named Shingen), also offers a refreshed system UI, Folder organization, updates to the Quick Menu and Share Menu and Library improvements.

While it’s great news that this update allows developers to patch in HDR, it’s also not a feature of any now available PS4 games or media apps.

As well as this, a plethora of new and interesting features in update 4.00 have been implemented to bolster the PS4 experience, most notably of which is HDR support for all their consoles.

Bethesda expressed its regrets at having to deliver this news, especially after having worked toward PS4 mod support for so long, and promised to update fans if anything changes and they find a way to bring mods to the PS4. Twitch supports 1080p with 30 frames per second while Youtube can deliver up to 60 frames per second streaming capability. “You can transfer games, user info, and saved data”, Sony says. This is obviously to prepare for the arrival of the PS4 Pro.

You can see one Xbox One owner ask the same question in a recent Tweet above, but then again what kind of HDR are Sony exactly offering to PS4 users?
