CDC: Utah Zika case remains a mystery
“The recent spike is a result of more people coming to do blood or urine tests after the outbreak in Latin American countries”, he said, noting that the increase over the last two months was mainly because of the rainy season, a time when mosquitoes are more active.

Utah health officials on Tuesday said they have been unable to determine how the son of an elderly Salt Lake County man sickened by the Zika virus also contracted the virus. Utah doesn’t have the kind of mosquitoes that transmit Zika, and the two people involved did not have sexual contact.
Wongwat Liewlak, deputy director of the BMA’s health department, said the 22 virus-infected patients found in Sathon have been put into quarantine to ensure they are not bitten by mosquitoes, so as to limit the spread of the disease. The ministry will monitor babies born to pregnant women with Zika over time.
On tackling the spread of Zika virus, Masagos Zulkifli said over 200 mosquitoes breeding habitats have been destroyed during inspections of National Environment Agency since the first locally-transmitted Zika case reported on August 27.
“Our case highlights the potential for Zika virus neurotropism and the need for early identification of Zika virus-related neurologic symptoms”.
8 of the total confirmed cases were pregnant women, with more than 80 percent, 269 cases, of the confirmed cases were from the main cluster in Aljunied, Sims Drive and Paya Lebar Way.
So far, no infected Aedes mosquitoes have been found in the San Diego region or elsewhere in California, according to county health officials.
Wathanee said the city was notified by a private hospital on Sept.1 about the infected woman.
The resident experienced a fever, rash, fatigue and joint pain after he or she returned home.
The elderly patient died on June 25 and, less than a week later, the family member started to exhibit symptoms of the virus even though he had not traveled to an area with Zika transmission.
Previously, Atlantic County was one of only four counties in the state that had not yet had a Zika case. Zika also can be spread during sex (by both males and females).

After a previous trip was postponed due to Hurricane Hermine, Governor Rick Scott is scheduled to go to Washington, D.C. this week to urge Congress to fund the fight against the mosquito-borne Zika virus. This includes the preparation of derivative works of, or the incorporation of such content into other works.
