IDF retaliates against Syrian regime after mortars land in Golan Heights
The Syrian army said it had shot down an Israeli warplane and a drone after the Israeli attack. “At no point was the safety of IDF [Israeli Defense Forces] aircraft compromised”.

Israel has refrained from taking any major official involvement in the civil war in Syria, but it has launched attacks on Syrian targets after claiming to have been hit by projectiles from within the war torn state.
The Syrian army said it brought down an Israeli plane and a drone after they targeted one of its positions in Quneitra province, on the border of the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, said a statement carried by the state news agency SANA.
The regime has built tens of illegal settlements in the area ever since and has used the region to carry out a number of military operations against the Syrian government.
The Israeli strike inside Syria came just hours after the USA and Russian Federation brokered a nationwide cease-fire in Syria in the second attempt by the two world powers to halt the ongoing conflict.
Later on Tuesday, the Israeli military said three other “projectiles” fired from Syria hit the Golan Heights in two separate strikes, causing no injuries. However, the occupation army denied the warplanes were downed, but confirmed that the Syrian army launched two surface-to-air missiles at the Israeli aircrafts. It would not elaborate further.
