‘The Martian’ Trailer: Matt Damon Just Wants to Go Home

The Martianalso stars Kate Mara, Sean Bean, Kristen Wiig, Jessica Chastain, Michael Pena, Donald Glover and Chiwetel Ejiofor, among others.

“I will never stop fighting to make it home”, Mark says, during the heart-pounding final crescendo of the trailer. After a freak accident maroons him on the Red Planet, he must learn how to grow food while he waits for rescue. “And that was really attractive about the character, how he kept his sense of humour and this incredible, logical, practical, problem-solving type of thinking, and it’s what the real astronauts can actually do”. We just have one question: is anyone else getting a Watchmen vibe from this trailer?

The actor hopes children will be inspired by the idea of space travel after watching the film. Ridley Scott directs from a screenplay by Buffy’s Drew Goddard.

Dr Green added that the film gives a tantalising glimpse of what could soon be a reality.

“As soon as Ridley contacted us and we recognized that he wanted to paint that really accurate picture, it was easy for us to endorse the movie and then provide whatever kind of consultation and advice he needed to be able to execute on it”, said Jim Green, director of NASA’s planetary science arm.
