Sony is. The company unveiled two new consoles last Wednesday at a press event held in NY.

The slimmer and lighter PlayStation 4 will have two versions – 500GB and 1TB.

The 500 GB Slim is a quieter and smaller version of the original PS4. The model also comes with better energy efficiency, and supposedly cuts power consumption by more than 34%. The internal components are mostly the same as the current PlayStation 4.

The PS4, while not introducing a new format of its own, picked up the baton passed by the PS3, offering wide-ranging streaming service support, Blu-ray and DVD playback, USB media functionality and even banging out the tunes with its own Spotify player. With the new PlayStation Firmware 4.0 update, Sony has redesigned the XMB bringing a new UI, folder organization, updates to quick menus and so much more.

Also new in 4.00: folders. The PlayStation Blog has a full rundown of everything this latest update has to offer, so if you want to see what they are, make sure to follow this link as well as this one. That is right. It is not being called the Neo. For the PS4 Pro, the 1080p streaming will be available for Remote Play on PC/Mac and other compatible devices as well as for Share Play. PS4 lead architect Mark Cerny promised an “increase crispness of scenes, a higher frame-rate and richer special effects, as well as a double-rendered pixel count for promising PS VR first-person shooter “Farpoint”, but deep-diving details and specific examples were lacking”.

PlayStation Lifestyle added that PlayStation 4 Pro updates will roll out in November 10, 2016. That’s it. It’s exactly the same architecture as the existing one … With this new feature, players can now organize and arrange their games and apps neatly and access them more conveniently. With what has been given, it looks like Sony has not been showing signs of slowing down in terms of giving its fans the gaming experience they deserve.

The 4.00 update adds plenty more, however. It’s also more customizable than before and has several new menu items, plus an enhanced Music section that was featured in the beta program.

But it was the heroine of Electronic Arts’ upcoming “Mass Effect: Andromeda” who best summed up the PS4 Pro’s potential when she exclaimed, “The whole place is lighting up!” during an impressive gameplay preview. Unlike the Xbox One, you can get to the homescreen without initially connecting to the web and patching.
