Apple seems to have two goals with the new wireless AirPods: Offer a wireless earbud solution that works well with its new sans-headphone-jack iPhones, while also easing the wireless gadget setup process. These new earbuds are nothing but buds themselves which come in a charging cradle and don’t have any wires connecting them. The 32GB iPhone 7, which is the entry-level model, costs 44 percent more in Hungary. Even so, that’s $10 for a short piece of plastic cable on top of the $160 you already spent on the AirPods.

If you’re interested in buying the AirPod Strap, then you’ll be pleased to learn you can pre-order them immediately. With the carrying case, you can get up to 24 hours of listening time. These are a pair of earbuds, each with an inch or so of protruding plastic, and nothing else – no wires to hold them together, no dangling cords. I can also see the AirPods being useful for accessing Siri more quickly during a crowded commute. Other practices, including the rise of texting, have reduced the electromagnetic exposure many people get from smartphones, which can emit several hundred milliwatts of electromagnetic radiation when operating at peak power.
The one-touch access almost sums up Apple’s entire plan for the device and for Siri.
That’s right, folks. As inevitable as it was, popular accessory maker Spigen has created a new product they call the AirPods Strap. Apple isn’t promising better sound – at least for now – despite the Lightning port’s ability to deliver audio digitally. This elongated portion is where the headphone’s battery, antenna, and microphone are located.
Unless iPhone 7 users adopt a workaround that would let them plug their earphone into the device’s charging jack, they will need to don headphones or earpieces that connect wirelessly to their devices.
Tim Cook took to the stage along with his team on the 7th of September to introduce Apple’s latest flagship. With Apple having previously eliminated the CD drive and Ethernet port from laptops, Apple defenders assert that the headphone jack is just another connector which can be replaced by something wireless. The AirPods did stay in my ears through one bike ride and eight runs, though one dropped out as I changed my shirt.
