Sony promises VR music video, other entertainment content

HDR was promised during the Sony PlayStation Meeting event in NY last week and will be available on every PS4, including the soon-to-be-released new, slimmer model and the PS4 Pro, which is coming on 10 November. Besides those previously detailed features, the update will bring an enhanced Music section, PS4 Pro updates, support for HDR displays, a redesigned What’s New section and content info screen, and new data transfer options, Sony said Monday.

Beta testers already saw some of the new features of the Shingen update, including the ability to create folders as well as the improved Quick Menu screen.

As for the Quick Menu, it is now more customizable and more accessible as players would not even have to exit their games to use it.

Essentially AnywhereVR provides a holographic projection of from the user’s smartphone, allowing them to easily access certain applications like Twitter or playing mini-games while listening to music in the background. The original PS4 and the new slim model will continue to be able to play all PS4 games coming down the line.

There’s also a new Quick Music feature in the menu that allows easy control of Spotify. Much similar to a news feed, the player can see the overview of the game, friends and communities, trending media, activities and all other content in PS Store. It’s important to note that not everything you do on your PS4 will use HDR, so don’t expect drastic changes in your current favorite games. In case, you are planning to buy the new PS4 Slim or PS4 Pro console, transferring data should be an easy task.

From what we can tell from this blog post from PlayStation Blog, this new layout for the PS4 might be just what the fans wanted. Out in November, the mid-cycle update from Sony offers up a more powerful PS4, once capable of 4K output, and much higher visual fidelity in games.
