Warriors ‘confident’ of signing Kieran Foran but hurdles remain
He sought a release from the Eels earlier in the season after struggling with personal problems off-field.

But speaking to Mike Hosking this morning on Newstalk ZB, Warriors chief executive Jim Doyle said in an ideal situation, “the good Kieran Foran” would be joining them in 2017.
The NRL’s “Israel Folau” rule could prevent the Warriors from signing troubled Kiwis global Kieran Foran.
The 26-year-old’s anticipated move across the Tasman comes with the Warriors set to announce former Parramatta coach and current Brisbane assistant Stephen Kearney as a replacement for Andrew McFadden, who had a year running on his contract but has been under huge pressure to avoid the axe after the team dropped their last three games to miss the semi-finals again.
Rugby League Week yesterday reported the Warriors had beaten several clubs to sign the Kiwis worldwide, with Foran agreeing to a one-year deal and the club hoping to extend his stay, if he succeeds.
“We’ve got no contract at this point in time with Kieran”.
Talks were continuing between the two parties and were a work in progress.
“If that’s the case then he won’t be here at the Warriors”, said Doyle. “I’d say we were the favourites, but the favourite doesn’t always win”. We continue to talk to him on a regular basis.
However Doyle denied on Tuesday that a deal was imminent, saying the club was yet to offer Foran a contract.
The Warriors have made no secret of the fact they are pursuing the services of rugby league star Kieran Foran.
Foran was on around $1 million a season for the Eels and the Warriors don’t have that much room inside their salary cap to get him and it could end up that the NRL’s salary cap auditor determines whether he joins the club.
If and when Foran does bid to make a return to the code he could also be sanctioned over the contents of a heated phone call to a prominent Sydney journalist in July that was reported to the NRL.
“I read something in the paper about Jarryd Hayne and it is just a cloud, so you can’t pre-judge anyone”, he said.
“He’s a leader, he plays with a massive amount of passion and brings everyone along with him”, he said.
“He’s still got some issues to work through”, Kearney said.

“We’ll have to spend a bit of time with him working through a process”.
