Stay tuned to your First Alert Weather team for the very latest on this system and any other storms that develop in the Atlantic during the 2016 season. The system is developing an area of heavy rain and thunderstorms, and there is some indication of tropical development. The surface low will move to the Northwest away from the Island region.

However, if Tropical Storm Julia wobbles westward, the threat of heavy rain and street flooding would spread much further inland.

An area of disturbed weather straddling the Florida Coast was upgraded to Tropical Storm Julia late Tuesday evening.

The storm was expected to produce as much as 10 inches of rain in northeast Florida, Georgia and SC coastlines through Friday, raising the possibility of flash flooding, the center said.

The storm has maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour and is moving north northwest at a speed of 9 miles per hour.

The system is expected to slow down in speed on Wednesday and eventually weaken into a tropical depression. In the Pacific, Hurricane Orlene continues to weaken.
