The 68-year-old former First Lady was forced to abruptly leave a 9/11 memorial in NY on Sunday due to a medical episode, stirring speculation about her well-being.

“I think the president’s belief that she’d be an excellent president of the United States is something that you’ve heard him say many times”.

At the same time, Obama made no reference to another controversy that has hung over her campaign in recent days – comments Friday that half of Trump’s supporters belong in a “basket of deplorables”.

Describing the likely cause of what happened, Clinton told interviewer Charlie Rose, taking care with each word he chose: ‘Frequently, not frequently … rarely but on more than one occasion over the last many many years – same sort of thing’s happened to her when she’s gotten severely dehydrated, ‘ Clinton said. Clinton’s campaign initially said she had been suffering the ill effects of dehydration and “overheating”.

On Sunday, the candidate’s doctor released a statement saying she had been diagnosed with pneumonia and that she would be cancelling a planned trip to California.

The billionaire real estate tycoon has brought up Clinton’s state of health often in campaign stops, arguing that she doesn’t have the “strength and stamina” to be president.

“I could feel how hot and humid it was”.

Obama went on to question whether Trump’s frequent presence in the media had fundamentally altered the terms of the national debate.

Unfortunately for Trump, the Clinton team has just raised the level of disclosure even higher; we now know the candidate has a troubled relationship with water.

Nearly five hours after the release of the video, the Clinton campaign released a statement from Clinton’s physician which read that Clinton had been diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday and left the memorial after becoming dehydrated and overheated. “And you’re not a demagogue”, Clinton said.

“The other candidate’s foundation took money other people gave to his charity and then bought a six-foot-tall painting of himself”, Obama said, referring to a Washington Post report on the Trump Foundation’s activities.

Axelrod, the director of the University of Chicago Institute of Politics, helped mastermind Obama’s victory over Clinton in the 2008 primaries and supports Clinton’s 2016 campaign.

Clinton admitted: “If we weren’t fast enough, you know, I’ve talked to my staff”.

When asked why her opponent Donald Trump is gaining on her in the polls, the former president had a quick response.

The campaign last week attributed her hacking cough to a high pollen count, then on Sunday blamed heat stroke for her dizzy spell – caught on video – while she left the September 11 ceremony in New York City early.

“I still think answers work better than anger, and I still think empowerment works better than division, and responsibility is better than resentment”, he said.
