The owners of the Star Trek museum are “beaming” out of Vulcan, to a place where most people think about dinosaurs.
Star Trek fans around the world are celebrating the franchise’s 50th anniversary, and Facebook is getting in on the action.
And with a new original series called “Star Trek Discovery” set to hit the web in 2017, Star Trek continues to live long and prosper.
Users in the U.S. and Canada who have expressed interest in Star Trek by liking the official page or related content may see a personalised greeting on their news feed which offers a custom profile frame. The original “Like” button remains the same, but with some added sparkles. Trekkies might also be invited to change their profile picture with a custom “Star Trek” frame.
“It makes sense that Kirk, as the first captain, is first up after “like” and “love, ‘ and that a Klingon should be the ‘angry” reaction given that they are easily agitated”, explained Facebook Messenger’s marketing lead Lindsey Shepard in a post.
“When we caught wind that Star Trek would be celebrating 50 years this month, it got our wheels turning”.
Coming to the convention, which is a celebration of all things Trek (in collaboration with CBS Consumer Products), will be IDW’s Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall, group editor Sarah Gaydos, Trek comics writer Mike Johnson, artist Derek Charm, and very special guest superstar artist John Byrne.
