MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Kansas City Royals fumbled a chance to creep forward in the AL wild-card race after a late lapse by the bullpen.

Morales gave the Royals a quick 2-0 lead with a two-run shot to deep right field that almost exited the stadium. Kansas City was unable to match and lost 6-5, dropping the rubber match of a three-game series.

On Tuesday, Dozier launched a home run into deep left at Target Field, extending his home-run streak to five games. Braun finished 2-for-5 with four RBIs, and he and Kirk Nieuwenhuis each scored three runs.
Kintzler (0-2) was charged with the loss after surrendering four runs on three hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning.
Berrios was called up from Triple-A to start.
Dozier, who grew up in Fulton near Tupelo, hit 10 home runs this season against the Royals, the most ever by a single player against the team. He’s connected 36 times as a second baseman and twice as a designated hitter.

ROYALS: Butera played behind the plate for Perez, who was out with a bruised right wrist after being hit there by a pitch the night before. Dozier is keeping his hands much closer to his body as he begins his swing, which may be allowing him to get the bat through the zone much more quickly than before.
TWINS: Following an off day at home, Minnesota hosts division-leading Cleveland on Friday. He struck out five times Sunday.
