British tourists hurt in Barcelona coach crash

British and Irish tourists have been injured after a bus carrying holidaymakers crashed near an airport in Barcelona.

All passengers were taken to hospitals across the city.

A spokesman for a local emergency services coordination centre said: ‘Three are serious.

Heavy rain was initially blamed for the accident, which led to the closure of part of the ring road for more than two hours.

Fifteen people sustained light injuries, while six people were in “moderate condition”, according to the emergency services.

The driver was also injured.

The bus had been travelling on a ring-road near the waterfront on the way to El Prat airport when the crash happened.

It had been travelling from the Costa Brava resort of Lloret de March.

Among the injured are citizens of the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Belarus and Spain.

The Republic’s Department of Foreign Affairs has said it is looking into the matter and “stand ready to provide consular assistance if requested”.

Tourists from a number of countries are reported to have been on board, with three believed to been seriously injured.
