Whether he got enough of the latter will be determined Monday – or perhaps not until September 25 – when captain Davis Love III makes his at-large selections for the U.S. Ryder Cup team.

Holmes had two top-five finishes in majors this year, but had a poor five-tournament stretch after that, though he did tie for fourth Sunday at the BMW Championship to qualify for the Tour Championship.
Holmes, 34, known for his prodigious length off the tee, has made just one previous appearance for his country in the Ryder Cup, in 2008 when the USA last tasted victory over Europe.
Love meanwhile said he and his vice captains had agonised until late on Sunday before deciding on the three picks announced Monday. Daniel also has a kind of swagger about him which I really like, and I think he will be a strong player for the United States for many years to come. “We have another tough decision coming up in two weeks”.

‘I went into that event a little rusty having not played the week before but by the weekend I was playing really solid golf, ‘ he said. “He travels well. He brings a lot of intangibles to our team”.
“I am probably more excited to be on this team than any other one”. He went winless in his last Ryder Cup appearance, and while he’s formed successful match play partnerships in the past with guys like Holmes and Webb Simpson, he doesn’t really have a natural mate between the ropes.
Or, maybe Kuchar was just trying to build some drama into the seemingly never-ending process of fielding a USA team that, once again, will hope to use revenge as motivation to end the European stranglehold on the cup.
It was a bit of a surprising selection partly because Rickie Fowler hasn’t had a great season, and also because because Bubba Watson and Jim Furyk – two players who in the mind of many thought should cruise onto the team – weren’t among those included. “There’s been some awkward conversations with him but we’ve told him not to put his clubs away just yet”.
