Two meetings will be held this week, one Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.at the Seiad Valley Fire Station.

The U.S. Forest Service said new mapping methods revealed the fire’s increase and this includes all land in the perimeter of the fire. The fire was estimated to be 33,867 acres in the same update.
Yesterday, the fire was most active on the northeast side, and firelines were tested by northwest winds. Firefighters continued to mop up containment lines and on Tuesday the red-flag warning was lifted. According to InciWeb, the fire has been burning a heavy fuel of dead and down material due to lack of previous fires in the area in a closed canopy of timber. It’s not clear how the fire started.
“About halfway across the northern edge there’s some challenging terrain that’s hard to walk through, let alone build fire lines”, he said. We recommend hunters monitor the progress of the fire via the Forest Service fire incident website area prior to an official closure.
Old Highway 8 has been closed from Washington State Route 14 to Sundale Road and officials were urging the public to avoid the area.

Voos says the cause of the fire isn’t necessarily suspicious, but the agency is hoping someone who may have been in the area Saturday afternoon will come forward with a tip that could prove helpful. The forest services asks that anyone with information regarding the investigation call the tipline for the Klamath National Forest at 530-841-4474.
