Dewey of Ladd was last seen on August 22 in Spring Valley. About a week later, her vehicle was found unlocked, with keys and purse inside, at a truck stop in Morris. And other than the ISP saying the search on the property was for Dewey, there is no positive identification on the speculation that a body was found, and if it was, that it was Dewey. The family has yet to make a public statement.
Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, the Illinois State Police, Putnam County coroner/death investigator, a K9 Search and Rescue Team and plenty of crime scene tape set the stage on Monday in Standard in Putnam County.
The body of Deborah Dewey was found in a shallow grave in Standard.
The body was transported by the Putnam County Coroner to Bloomington, Illinois, for an autopsy by the Medical Examiner’s Office. It was confirmed though dental records to be the body of Deborah Dewey, 62, of Ladd.
This remains an open and ongoing investigation. The vehicle was unlocked and undamaged; her purse was still in the vehicle.
Beginning Monday, officials were on the scene for hours, which continued into Tuesday.
No further information will be released at this time, according to state police.
