Pakistan and England will meet again on Thursday at Headingley in Leeds for fourth one-day global (ODI) but it won’t make as much impact as Host have already won the five-match series 3-0.

Morgan was dropped by Yasir and took advantage by hitting five sixes in a swashbuckling knock, with Buttler – who cleared the ropes seven times – bowled off a no-ball from the expensive Wahab and striking the last ball of an incredible innings for four to set a new world record.

Buttler started slowly, before exploding into life during an over from Shoaib Malik, and before long he had reached his half-century from just 21 balls, a new England record.

Buttler hammered six sixes and three fours to get to his half-century and finished 90 not out off 51 balls while Morgan ended unbeaten on 57.

Ironically the last word – and record – went to Mohammad Amir whose 58 is the highest score by a number 11 in ODI history.

Resolute half-centuries by Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow led England to a four-wicket victory against Pakistan and a 4-0 lead in the five-match one-day global series on Thursday.

England s total surpassed the previous record of 443 for nine by Sri Lanka against the Netherlands at Amstelveen in 2006.

Good fortune enabled him to keep hitting boldly and with the utter belief that he would break Robin Smith’s 23-year old record of England’s highest score in a one-day worldwide.

The captain, Eoin Morgan, can call on the experience of Joe Root, who is named alongside the all-rounder Moeen Ali and Nottinghamshire’s Alex Hales. Once again, Pakistan struggled to find rhythm with the bat, after winning the toss.

Fortunately for the host, Stokes and Bairstow, the latter replacing late withdrawal Jos Buttler, came together to put on a crucial partnership of 103 for the fifth wicket. Captain Azhar Ali, who made 80 from 104 deliveries, was the only specialist batsman to make a significant contribution.

Man-of-the-match Bairstow followed suit by skipping down the pitch to drive Mohammad Nawaz, Pakistan’s other left-arm spinner, for another six.

“Records are hugely important, it emphasizes we’re not just a chasing side”.

“I don’t think we’ve reached our full potential as a team”.

Sharjeel showed some flashes as he hit 12 fours in his half century that included four successive boundaries in Mark Wood’s one over – before holing out in the deep off Woakes.

But Root, one of five Yorkshire players in the side, fell when his top-edged pull off Hasan Ali was safely caught at fine leg by Irfan.
