Dana White: Sage Northcutt’s team wants Mickey Gall fight
Despite the loss, Punk promised that he’d be back in the Octagon.

“I know my kill stuff would be more than his kill stuff”, he said. “Fair play to him, because he got in there and fought, and not a lot of people do. He wanted me to give him a shot, I gave him a shot”.
“He probably shouldn’t have his next fight in the UFC”, White told The Fight Network following Saturday’s event. Also in the the post-fight Octagon interview, Gall went on to call out fellow young and upcoming prospect Sage Northcutt, for a possible fight at UFC 205 in Madison Square Garden.
Punk’s fight with Gall will precede a heavyweight title matchup between champion and Cleveland native Stipe Miocic, who will take on Alistair Overeem, one of the division’s top-ranked contenders. After all, you have to be a pretty big star to get signed by the UFC, without ever having fought… Gall quickly worked his way into side control, transitioned into mount and after delivering a number of hard punches, he was able to work the position and finally apply the rear-naked choke to end Punk’s UFC debut.
“It [the Punk fight] was a real opportunity for me”. I’m gonna come in there and be a tough fighter.’ Once I get in there, I let my training take over. “I felt indebted to my sport, to the veterans of my sport – everyone in my sport – to go in there and dominate every second of this fight.”. “If you think otherwise, I’m sorry your dreams are so small”. I lost and it sucks and it was lopsided and it’s upsetting. “She just said she was proud of me”. I would have been a fool to say no.
While he got resoundingly beaten in the ring, Punk still remained humble and excited to continue to pursue a career in mixed martial arts.

Right now, Punk said his main focus is turning his attention to his wife – former professional wrestler April Brooks (AJ Lee) – after she supported him so much after making the decision to becoming a professional fighter. Punk though has not got any indications from the authorities regarding such a move. The UFC could definitely give him a more favourable match-up, jiu-jitsu wise, but that’ll just mean the opponent will be more heavily skilled in another area.
