New golf event in Australia to combine stroke, match play
The new event, dubbed the World Super 6 Perth, will replace the prior Perth International in Australia and will be played from February 16-19 at Lake Karrinyup Country Club. The leading 24 players after the third round will then advance to match play on Sunday, with a playoff to determine who moves on in case of ties.

Gone is the Perth International, which began in 2012, and in its place launches the World Super 6 Perth, to be held at Lake Karrinyup Country Club from February 16 to 19 as a co-sanctioned entity with the European Tour.
“This is an exciting day for worldwide golf as we launch the World Super 6 Perth; a golf tournament which is set to change the way people view golf”, said Brian Thorburn, CEO of the PGA of Australia and PGA Tour of Australasia. Should any match remain all square through six holes, players will head to a makeshift tee adjacent to the 18th fairway and play a single “knockout hole” back to the 18th green from 90 meters (98 yards) away.
The catch? If those six-hole match play events are tied after six holes, the victor will be determined by a closest-to-the-pin competition.

What do you make of the World Super 6 Perth event that will take place early next year?
European Tour chief executive, Keith Pelley, added: “This initiative was something that we spoke about at great length to our tournament committee, led by chairman Thomas Bjørn”.
A new, exciting version of golf is coming to Perth – it’s being compared to Twenty20 or Ruby7’s – a faster and more innovative format for more casual spectators.
“Western Australia has a long and proud history of hosting world-class sporting events”, Thorburn said.

The ground-breaking event is expected to attract millions of dollars in tourism and branding exposure for WA and will form part of the 2017 European Tour “Race to Dubai” and the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit.
